“Of all the corporate headquarters moves from suburban Chicago to the city in recent years, none generated more buzz than McDonald’s abandonment of Oak Brook for new digs in the West Loop.

A year after bringing 2,000 workers to the bustling Randolph Street corridor, the giant burger chain appears to have no regrets. Last week, CEO Steve Easterbrook started McDonald’s quarterly earnings call by toasting the anniversary. And he linked the downtown move to McDonald’s improving business performance.

‘Returning to Chicago was a deliberate move to get closer to our customers and the trends shaping business and society today,’ Easterbrook told analysts. ‘Our new facility was designed to be a modern and inspiring environment, a catalyst for our evolving culture.’
